Qld hospitals could close amid cuts: Dick

Queensland's health minister says cuts to healthcare funding proposed by the federal government will be too deep for the state to absorb.

Queensland hospitals could close if the federal government cuts funding, the state's health minister says.

Cameron Dick wants the federal government to reconsider its plans not to renew national partnership agreements to fund health care.

He says Queensland is facing cuts of $11.8 billion to its health system over the next decade.

The health minister warns those cuts will be too deep for the state to absorb.

"The risk is, the real impact is, that some hospitals may in fact have to close," Mr Dick said.

"That's a possibility, it will certainly result in a reduction of services throughout Queensland."

He has spoken about the issue with his counterparts in other states, who he says back his call to continue the current arrangements.

Mr Dick will lobby the federal government to reverse the decision at COAG on Friday.
