Qld Labor MP referred to ethics committee

The Queensland Speaker has referred Labor MP Jackie Trad to the ethics committee over allegations she knowingly failed to declare all interests.

Queensland Labor MP Jackie Trad has been referred to the Ethics Committee over allegations she deliberately failed to declare a conflict of interest.

Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie complained to Speaker Fiona Simpson on January 8, that Ms Trad didn't disclose on the floor of parliament that her husband is a partner in a company in the compensation industry when she voted on changes to WorkCover.

Ms Trad has apologised, saying she fully disclosed all her interests on her register, but was unaware she had to declare again during the vote.

Ms Simpson says in this instance Ms Trad arguably has an interest that should have been declared.

"The real issue is whether the member knowingly failed to declare the interest," Ms Simpson told parliament.

"However, the importance of the issue of declarations of pecuniary interest ... needs to be treated seriously and consistently.

"I have decided to refer the matter to the ethics committee.

"I am certain that the committee will consider the members' explanation and apology."
