Qld leads rise in insolvencies

The amount of people unable to pay their debts and entering insolvency rose in first three months of 2016, new data shows.

The number of Australians in financial distress is on the rise, with new figures showing an increase in the number of people entering insolvency in first three months of 2016.

Personal insolvencies rose 1.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015, data from the Australian Financial Security Authority shows.

Queensland had the highest number of debtors entering insolvency with nearly 2,250 people in the first three months of 2016, around 200 more than the same period last year.
