A motorcyclist has died in a crash shortly after failing to stop for police at Ipswich, west of Brisbane.

Officers tried to pull over the 31-year-old rider on Redbank Plains Road at Swanbank just before 6pm on Sunday but he didn't stop.

They found his body and wrecked bike further along the same road a short time later. Police say there was no pursuit.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the events leading up to the fatal crash and will prepare a report for the coroner.

The Crime and Corruption Commission is overseeing the investigation.
