A memorial will be held in a Brisbane park where a French student was found murdered more than a year ago.

Sophie Collombet's naked and battered body was discovered in a rotunda at Kurilpa Park at South Bank on March 28 last year.

Community groups will hold a service on Saturday afternoon to honour her and to discuss the threats of street crime.

"We are really hoping that this event just gives people an opportunity to discuss what they can do to protect their personal safety," event organiser Shannon McCallum told ABC Radio on Saturday.

It will not be the first time Ms Collombet has been remembered at Kurilpa Park.

Last April, 2000 people, mostly strangers, marched through Brisbane to the inner city park in honour of the 21-year-old Griffith University student.

Benjamin James Milward, 25, has been charged with the murder.

He is due to reappear in court in July.
