Qld miner dies in hospital after accident

A miner has died in hospital after being injured at work in northwest Queensland.

A Queensland miner who was injured in a workplace accident at the beginning of the month has died in hospital.

Jason Braid, 46, was taken to hospital after the incident at the Ernest Henry underground copper mine near Cloncurry in northwest Queensland.

He was later transferred to Cairns Base Hospital for rehabilitation but died suddenly on Friday afternoon.

The North West Star newspaper has reported that he died after a blood clot formed.

Mr Braid had worked as an underground operator at the mine for three years, Glencore confirmed.

"Jason was involved in an incident underground on 1 February and an investigation into this incident has commenced," the company said in a written statement.

"Jason had received treatment for his injuries and had moved into the rehabilitation stage of his recovery."

Glencore spokesman Mike Westerman extended his sympathy to Mr Braid's family, friends and colleagues.
