Queensland's police minister promises more officers will be put on the Ipswich beat when the local police communications centre is moved to Brisbane.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale and Police Union president Ian Leavers say the relocation due in May next year is a bad decision, but Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller promises no jobs will be lost in the local area.

"While some roles will necessarily move to Brisbane, those wishing to stay in Ipswich will be able to transfer to other roles in the district. Extra police will also be placed into Ipswich," she told AAP.
