Police have removed what is left of a caravan in which a father and his two young children died in northwest Queensland.

Charlie Hinder, 39, his daughter Nyobi, seven, and four-year-old son River died when the caravan was ripped apart and caught fire in the front yard of a Mount Isa home early on Tuesday.

A crane was used to lift wheels and part of the metal base of the caravan from the crime scene on Friday.

Police say they've collected the evidence they need and investigators from Townsville and Brisbane will fly home.

More than 70 police have been involved in the four-day search of the crime scene, which extended hundreds of metres along suburban Deighton St.

Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller said all 19 families displaced by the investigation now had access to their homes.

Mr Hinder has been described as a loving father who had been showing signs of depression.

The children's mother was inside the house on the property when it caught fire following the blast.

Police expect it will take weeks if not months to determine the cause of the tragedy. A community recovery centre set up in the town's civic centre after the explosion is now closed but there are still teams responding to calls for assistance.
