Qld poll suggests LNP bounce, Labor steady

The Liberal National Party's primary vote is up, but it's at the expense of minor parties rather than Labor.

Queensland's Liberal National Party has had a bounce in the polls after the first week of election campaigning.

The Galaxy poll and Newspoll, both published on Saturday, also show Premier Campbell Newman's personal approval rating has edged up.

The LNP's primary vote is up by four percentage points to 41 per cent, while Labor is steady on 38 per cent, according to Galaxy.

Newspoll puts LNP up at 42 per cent, up five percentage points, and Labor on 38, up one percentage point.

The Galaxy poll shows the LNP's two-party preferred vote has increased by two points, leading Labor by 52-48.

The party's two-party preferred vote is also up three percentage points since the October-December Newspoll, with the LNP leading Labor 53-47.

Both polls show support for Labor has not declined, with the LNP's gains coming at the expense of the Greens and minor parties.

With three weeks of campaigning to go Labor could still improve its primary vote before the election on January 31.

However, only 31 per cent of people asked by Newspoll think Labor will win, whereas 47 per cent can see the LNP returning for a second term.

The premier has seen a slight jump in his approval rating according to Newspoll, but the Galaxy results are unchanged.
