Qld public transport fares frozen for 2015

Queensland commuters returning to work for the year have had a hip-pocket surprise, with the government freezing all public transport fares for the year.

Train and bus passengers in Queensland have been given a late Christmas present with the government deciding to freeze fares across the state for the year.

Transport Minister Scott Emerson says the government is scrapping the 2.5 per cent increase due this month.

"This year's fare freeze, on top of last year's five per cent fare reduction, is part of our strong plan to improve the frequency, reliability and affordability of the public transport network," Mr Emerson said.

He says the fare decrease and freeze will save passengers hundreds of dollars each year.
