Qld salmonella cases continue to rise

More than 250 people have reported feeling ill after attending a school principals conference at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The number of suspected salmonella cases linked to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre continues to rise.

So far, 254 people have reported gastrointestinal symptoms after attending a two-day school principals conference in late February.

Of those, 22 cases of salmonella poisoning have been confirmed.

It comes after news broke that about 10 people also fell ill at an separate conference at the same venue held about a week earlier.

Five attendees of that conference, for the Fundraising Institute of Australia, have been diagnosed with salmonella.

The centre, which hosted the G20 summit of world leaders last year, is investigating the suspected outbreak.

"We've been dealing directly with the exhibition centre who have now asked us to put these folk in contact with Queensland Health, who are tackling the problem," FIA chief executive Rob Edwards told the ABC.

A spokeswoman for the exhibition centre has said they were not told of any earlier salmonella cases until after the principals conference was over.

Queensland Health is working to determine the source of the cases.
