Qld siege man remanded in custody

A man involved in a four-and-a-half hour siege with police while holed up inside a Caboolture home has been remanded in custody after a court appearance.

A gunman at the centre of a siege involving a toddler has been remanded in custody following a Queensland court appearance.

Philip Colegate, 37, faced 18 charges in Caboolture Magistrates Court on Friday, including discharging a firearm, deprivation of liberty and dangerous conduct with weapons.

He made no application and was remanded in custody to reappear on September 25.

Colegate sparked an emergency declaration when he allegedly fired a shot while a woman and a 19-month-old boy were in a house at Caboolture, north of Brisbane, on Thursday.

The woman managed to get away but the man refused to surrender or hand over the child.

The siege ended peacefully on Thursday afternoon, about four-and-a-half hours after police were told a man was making threats at the home.

The woman was treated for minor head and facial injuries. The child was not hurt.
