Qld snake bite man drives to hospital

A Queensland man who's been bitten by a venomous brown snake has taken himself to hospital for treatment.

A man has driven himself to hospital after being bitten by a deadly brown snake in north Queensland.

An RACQ CQ Rescue spokeswoman said the man, 28, was bitten on Sunday night while he was getting out of his car in the Whitsundays region.

The man then drove himself to Proserpine Hospital for treatment, where a pressure bandage was applied to stop the snake's lethal venom entering his bloodstream.

He was then flown by helicopter to Mackay Base Hospital about 11pm for further observation and treatment.

Brown snakes are considered one of the world's deadliest serpents and are responsible for the most snake bite-related deaths in Australia.
