Queensland withstood another impressive performance from the Cricket Australia XI to notch a four-wicket win in Friday's one-day cup in Brisbane.

Chasing 280 after sending in the visitors at Allan Border Field, the Bulls survived several hiccups to prevail with nine balls remaining.

Queensland made hard work of the chase, with Joe Burns (49 from 40) holing out when well set, before Matt Renshaw (67) was run out in a terrible mix up with Marnus Labuschagne.

Labuschagne then took the Bulls to within reach of the target before he was well caught on the boundary by Max Bryant for 61.

Ahead of a home Ashes series, incumbent Test opener Renshaw said it was frustrating not to push on and seal the result himself with a big score.

"It would've been great to score a hundred; it's been a while since I've scored my last hundred, so I'm definitely itching to get the three figures," the tall left-hander said.

"I felt quite scratchy early on; it wasn't an easy pitch to get in on and they bowled tight.

"We made it a little bit difficult for ourselves, but the bowlers clawed it back well after a pretty good start from CA XI."

Earlier, Gold Coast 18-year-old Bryant had hit 60 from 48 balls for the CA XI, with Ben Pengelley (53 from 36) taking over late in the innings.

Spinners Mitchell Swepson (1-31 from 10 overs) and Jason Floros (1-44 from 10) helped stem the flow of runs against a young side, buoyed by Wednesday's drubbing of South Australia.
