Qld talks tough on NDIS funding

Queensland's opposition doubts the state government will be able to get Commonwealth funding for the NDIS sooner.

Queensland's government is demanding the federal government hands over NDIS funding sooner, but the opposition doubts it will happen.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says $553 million has been collected from Queenslanders through the higher national Medicare levy since July to fund National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

But the federal government has only given $201 million back to the state thus far and the premier will demand they hand over the full sum at the COAG meeting in Canberra on Friday.

"I'm not asking for more money. I want the money that Queenslanders are paying and that Queenslanders are entitled to," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"It's very clear Queensland is being short-changed by $350 million."

The premier will also lobby for a larger slice of GST revenue and for the Abbott government to change its infrastructure funding model so it doesn't favour states that privatise public assets.

Deputy Opposition Leader John-Paul Langbroek wants the state to get more funding and sooner, but he doubts the premier will be able to make it happen.

He said Labor's track record wasn't good as Treasurer Curtis Pitt had failed to secure more infrastructure funding last week and federal Finance Minister Matthias Cormann was now talking about how the state could get a smaller GST share.

"That's my concern, that this government will not have the credibility to go to Canberra, whether it's on disability funding or on GST allocation, to actually come out with a result," Mr Langbroek said.

"Annastacia Palaszczuk is going go down there and ask for more and I'm concerned that she's going to come back with less."

Queensland's premier will attend the COAG meeting with the prime minister and other state and territory leaders in Canberra on Friday.
