Qld teen charged over deliberate fires

A 19-year-old man has been charged over a series of deliberately lit fires that damaged property in Townsville's CBD early Friday morning.

A teenager will face court over a series of deliberately lit fires in Townsville, including a blaze at an historic hotel.

Police charged the 19-year-old after an investigation into several fires in the Townsville CBD early Friday morning.

The Great Northern Hotel, a car, a tyre business and two industrial bins were set alight between 3.40am and 5.20am.

The Townsville teenager has been charged with a number of arson related offences, five counts of wilful damage, possession of a knife and obstruct police.

He's expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Saturday.
