A Sunshine Coast woman accused of befriending an elderly man so she could skim money from his bank account, has been charged with fraud.

The Landsborough woman allegedly offered to help the 81-year-old man pay his bills.

She then used his ATM card to make withdrawals for herself, police say.

The 50-year-old woman kept the scam going for months before one of the man's relatives became suspicious, police said.

She's subsequently been charged with fraud and is expected to front Caloundra Magistrates Court on May 14.
