A father will appear in a Gold Coast court on Tuesday charged with murdering one of his daughters and attempting to murder another.

The body of the six-year-old girl was found by her mother in her bedroom at a house in Brisbane's north on Monday.

Police allege the girl's father killed her and also tried to kill her eight-year-old sister.

It's alleged the 52-year-old man drove away from the family's Kedron home early on Monday morning, before the girl's body was discovered.

He was later found on the Gold Coast and was taken to hospital before being charged at Surfers Paradise police station later on Monday.

He will front the Southport Magistrates Court on one charge of murder and one charge of attempted murder.

Police have told of the mother's frantic efforts to save her child.

The 36-year-old called an ambulance but officers believe the six-year-old had died several hours before she was found.

Investigators have said she had no obvious signs of injury.
