The body of an intellectually impaired kayaker has been found in a Queensland creek near where his vessel was earlier discovered.

A local resident discovered the body of Chris Dicker in Tallebudgera Creek about 6.20am on Monday and alerted police.

Police and locals had searched for Mr Dicker until 8pm on Sunday after his kayak was found on a nearby bank of the creek without a paddle.

The 28-year-old, who was intellectually impaired and had a medical condition, was last seen at 7am on Sunday.

Locals say the creek is notorious for strong currents and is known to have sucked kayakers out to sea before.

Police say a report will be prepared for the coroner.
