The party’s senate leader and former footballer had been approached by an unnamed political party in the past, but said he only began considering politics as a serious career following discussions with Palmer United Party leader Clive Palmer.
He’s since addressed the press gallery when helping Mr Palmer and former US Vice President Al Gore launch the party’s climate change policy.
In a profile posted on the party’s website, the Brisbane-based Senator-elect says the party will unite Australia with “common sense policies”.
Mr Lazarus is a former international and state-of-orgin rugby league player.
SBS had arranged an interview with the Queensland Palmer United Party Senator-elect, but the party’s media advisor was not connactable at the arranged time.
