Joyce Capewell, a Yamatji woman from the West Australian city of Geraldton, who moderates an Indigenous justice and rights Facebook page, brought the complaint to Queensland Police, after an offensive comment was posted on her site.
Writing under the alias Anne T Sharia, the following comment was posted on a public forum:
The account has since been disabled, but previously the same author had praised former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic and his use of genocide, and clicked “like” on posts calling for the ban of the Burqa, praising controversial Dutch politician Geert Wilders and supporting the far-right group the English Defence League.
Ms Capewell alleges she has been told that the post’s author is a serving Queensland police officer.
In a statement to NITV News, Queensland Police confirmed they are "investigating a complaint regarding posts made to a Facebook page". The statement went on to say, "As the investigation is ongoing it is not appropriate to comment further".
It’s understood the complaint is the one raised by Ms Capewell.
As yet there has been no indication as to how long the investigation will take.
