WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN

The government is standing by Australian families to keep the economy strong and guarantee services.

WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT

Why hasn't Peter Dutton been sacked over the au pair scandal and his conflicts of interests?

--

WHAT THEY SAID

"There is no such thing as a harmless hoax when it comes to Australian food." - Attorney-General Christian Porter on food contamination laws.

"I look at each case on its merit." - Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton.

"Will the prime minister and the education minister also restore the $14 billion that has been cut from public schools?" - Labor education spokeswoman Tanya Plibersek.

"The events of four or five weeks ago disappointed Australians greatly ... but they know we are getting on with things." - Prime Minister Scott Morrison asked why he described his party as the Muppet Show.
