An international law expert has questioned the ability of Australian immigration authorities to properly assess asylum claims remotely via video link.

Donald Rothwell is Professor of International Law at the Australian National University.

He's told Phillippa Carisbrooke, if reports Australian authorities are screening Sri Lankan asylum seekers at sea before transferring some to Sri Lankan custody, it would be of great concern.
