Australian military aircraft are supporting air strikes into Syria, but the government has no plans to allow RAAF bombers to fly in Syrian airspace.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Wednesday confirmed RAAF refueller and surveillance aircraft were "certainly assisting with air operations throughout the theatre and that includes air operations in Syria".

"While we are not ourselves mounting strikes against targets in Syria, our two support aircraft are supporting strikes in Syria," he told reporters in Canberra.

However, Australia's Super Hornet bombers had not flown sorties in Syria.

Canada on Tuesday announced it would join coalition bombing missions in Syria.

Mr Abbott said the government had no plans to extend its Operation OKRA beyond Iraq.
