Nearly 70 Australians are being flown back to Australia after they were evacuated from earthquake-ravaged Nepal by military aircraft.

The 66 Australians are returning on a RAAF Globemaster C-17 plane which transported humanitarian aid to Nepal.

A second Globemaster will remain in Bangkok pending a further assessment of evacuation needs, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop told reporters in Perth on Friday.
