Four officers were called to the Genesis Beauty Supply on Saturday morning by shop worker Cho Oh, 72.

Oh opened the shop on Saturday to find the raccoon, ceiling debris and wigs scattered.

“It looked like a big cat,” she said.

Oh called 911 and four police officers who arrived armed with marshmallows, tranquilisers, a catch pole and a cage.

Passers-by we entertained with the spectacle of the officers chasing the raccoon.

After four attempts the raccoon was eventually wrestled into the cage and secured with cable ties.

The fate of the raccoon is not known but an official from the Animal Care and Control NYC told the New York Post that raccoons are typically euthanised and their brains tested for rabies.
