Australia's new Race Discrimination Commissioner is calling for ordinary Australians to stand up against casual racism.
Dr Tim Soutphommasane says 20 per cent of Australians report that they have experienced racist comments, and he says that's far too much.
The Commissioner is a Sydney academic and author, whose parents fled Laos as refugees in the 1970s.
Laura Murphy-Oates spoke to Dr Soutphommasane about how he plans to lead change on attitudes to racism.
