'Raft' spotted off WA coast just rubbish

An air and sea search was launched to investigate a possible makeshift raft off WA's north coast.

A possible makeshift raft made out of pallets that was spotted off Western Australia's north coast, sparking a search effort, has turned out to be rubbish.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority said three aircraft and a vessel searched an area 200km north of Truscott on Friday.

"There is no indication that the items were a deliberate construction for life saving purposes," an AMSA spokeswoman said.
