Rahim spurs Bangladesh to creditable total

An unbeaten century from Musfiqur Rahim has laid the platform for Bangladesh's highest one-day total against South Africa at the Diamond Oval.

Bangladesh have made 7-278 in the first one-day international against South Africa thanks largely to an unbeaten century by Mushfiqur Rahim.

Rahim was unbeaten on 110 at the Diamond Oval and led Bangladesh to their highest ODI score against South Africa.

The 29-year-old had help from Shakib Al Hasan (29) and Mahmudullah (26) in half-century partnerships for the third and fourth wickets.

Rahim was the anchor, though, arriving after 14 overs and seeing the innings through for a fifth ODI century. He hit 11 fours and two sixes.

Quick bowler Kagiso Rabada took 4-43, including a wicket off the last ball of the innings, to be South Africa's most effective bowler. Dwaine Pretorius had 2-48. Dane Paterson, on his ODI debut, struggled with 0-69.

South Africa selected AB de Villiers, who returned from a sabbatical to play his first international since June, while Bangladesh gave an ODI debut to allrounder Mohammad Saifuddin in the first of three 50-over games against the Proteas.
