Canberra will fight the record $20,000 fine it copped from the NRL for coach Ricky Stuart's infamous 24-second post-match media conference.

The club was slapped with the hefty penalty for a number of breaches of the league's media policy after Stuart walked out on journalists following the Raiders' round 12 loss to Brisbane at home.

He and his players refused to answer questions about the match, frustrated over recent refereeing decisions against his side.

The NRL found Stuart had not genuinely participated in the media conference and deemed that his comments could be interpreted as criticism of referees.

Raiders chief executive Don Furner will lodge an appeal at the NRL's CEO conference in Sydney on Thursday.

"I thought I might as well talk to them face-to-face about it and go from there," Furner told AAP.

"I'll talk to them and lodge something this afternoon."
