The third one-day international between New Zealand and Sri Lanka has been reduced to 43 overs per innings after rain twice forced a halt to play.

The third one-day international between New Zealand and Sri Lanka has been reduced to 43 overs per innings after sporadic rain twice halted play at Eden Park in Auckland.

Rain initially forced players from the field for more than an hour after 18 overs, with the Black Caps 88-1 after losing skipper Brendon McCullum for 28 off 22 balls.

But only another seven overs were bowled before rain again swept in.

Martin Guptill was on 61 and Tom Latham had 36, adding another 43 runs to leave New Zealand at 131-1.

Play has resumed again after a break of about half an hour.

The seven-match series is tied at one-all.
