Rain delays Shield match in Brisbane

Usman Khawaja made an unbeaten 48 to lift Queensland to 1-99 before rain forced an early lunch on day two of the Sheffield Shield clash in Brisbane.

Rain has forced an early lunch with Queensland 1-99 in their first innings of the Sheffield Shield clash with NSW at Allan Border Field.

Ex-Test batsman Usman Khawaja has made a breezy 48 for the Bulls following the early loss of opener Joe Burns (14).

Khawaja and Greg Moller (31) have shared an unbroken half-century stand as the home team responds to NSW's first innings of 386.

Ex-Test paceman Trent Copeland has the only wicket for the Blues, with Burns caught behind by Test wicketkeeper Brad Haddin with the score on 25.

Earlier, Michael Neser and James Hopes combined to wrap up the NSW innings with the visitors adding just 18 runs to their overnight score of 8-368.

Neser (2-75) bowled Test spinner Nathan Lyon (23) to end a half-century stand with Steven O'Keefe before the all-rounder took a very good running catch a backward square leg to dismiss O'Keefe for 26 in the next over off Hopes (2-48).

Queensland's bowlers shared the wickets, with Alister McDermott (2-89), leg-spinner Cameron Boyce (2-96) and Ben Cutting (2-66) all taking two wickets apiece.

Nic Maddinson top-scored for the Blues with 87 while Test pair Steven Smith (69) and David Warner (52) were among four NSW batsmen to pass 50 in their innings.
