Indonesian journalists have rallied in support of detained Al-Jazeera staff including Australian reporter Peter Greste.
About 30 journalists gathered on the city's landmark roundabout Bundaran HI in silent protest against the trio's imprisonment in Egypt, which accuses them of damaging national security.
Al-Jazeera's Jakarta-based correspondent Step Vaessen says the case resonates in Indonesia, where press freedom is fiercely defended.
"Indonesia has had its own experiences with violations of freedom of speech and freedom of press in the past, and still, journalists face a lot of problems here," she said.
She welcomed the support for her colleagues - the award-winning Greste, Egypt bureau chief Mohammed Fahmy and producer Baher Mohamed - who were arrested on December 29.
"You can't imagine that by doing your work, by doing a story, that you end up in jail for months," Vaessen said.
"Thats's something that's unimaginable.
"They've been in prison for such a long time, it's something that we cannot understand."
The Al Jazeera crew is among 20 journalists accused of airing false news and misleading viewers about the political situation in Egypt.
The "global day of action" was held in 30 cities worldwide and on social media on Thursday.
Mr Greste and his colleagues were denied bail at their first appearance in a Cairo court last week.
