Salford star Rangi Chase has been hit hard by the Super League judiciary over a nasty cannonball tackle which left his opponent sidelined for up to four months.
The former St George Illawarra and Wests Tigers playmaker copped a seven-match ban for the hit on Huddersfield's Brett Ferres, which left his former England teammate sidelined for up to four months due to a series ankle injury.
Chase contested the grade E dangerous throw charge, but was found guilty by the panel.
Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson had described the tackle as "disgraceful" and urged the Rugby Football League to "throw the book at Chase".
"He's not in a good way," said Anderson.
"His syndesmosis ligaments are no longer.
"It's disgraceful. It's attacking a standing leg, and when you look at the footage we have it's even worse.
"I'd have still been the same if Brett hadn't been injured.
"We coach people to hit thighs and pull knees together; attacking the joints is just not good.
"It won't be the end of his season but he'll be out for three to four months."
It rounded off a miserable evening for the Red Devils, who had earlier seen former Parramatta backrower Weller Hauraki banned for four games.
