The father of a Manus Island woman allegedly raped by three Australian immigration detention centre guards seized a bus belonging to the centre operator, a local MP says.
Papua New Guinea MP Ron Knight told AAP the man and his supporters took action because they were angry the guards had not faced justice.
Manus Island provincial police commander Alex N'Drasal confirmed a "relative" of the alleged victim hijacked the 25-seater bus on Monday as it was travelling back from the airport.
The bus was returned to the Manus detention centre operator Transfield Services half an hour later.
Police are investigating the incident and considering laying charges, Mr N'Drasal told AAP.
Mr Knight said the group had machetes but no one was harmed.
He said they planned to withhold the bus, as well as a three-tonne truck, from the centre until police questioned the guards.
The guards, who were stood down and sent back to Australia following the alleged incident in mid-July, could have faced a death sentence if convicted in PNG.
Mr Knight said the community was considering putting up a road block to stop detention centre vehicles accessing the airport.
"Everything has been pushed under the carpet," he said.
"If it was my daughter I'd be burning villages by now."
Mr Knight said the alleged rape had destroyed community goodwill towards the centre.
"The feeling on the ground is `everyone can piss off back to Australia'."
Port Moresby officially took over the police investigation into the alleged rape after Manus Island police threatened to storm the centre to arrest managers for perverting the course of justice unless the trio was returned.
Comment has been sought from Immigration Minister Peter Dutton and Transfield Services.
