Reserve Bank governor Glenn Stevens has signalled he has no plans to lift interest rates from their record lows any time soon.

"I think it's quite some time before we even think about interest rates going up," Mr Stevens told the Economic Society of Australia on Wednesday.

He noted that what constituted "normal" interest rates had changed and said the RBA remained open to cutting the cash rate.
