Raw Crows players take it day-by-day

Adelaide veteran Scott Thompson says the Crows players still have a lot of questions in the wake of the alleged murder of coach Phil Walsh.

Adelaide Crows stalwart Scott Thompson has a million thoughts in the aftermath of Phil Walsh's alleged murder.

"Everything is still so raw," he told reporters on Wednesday.

"There are probably a lot of questions that everyone has, but you can only go day-by-day."

Thompson is the first Adelaide player to speak publicly since Walsh was allegedly stabbed to death by his 26-year-old son last Friday.

And he reckons coach Walsh would have a simple order for his troops: get on with it.

"He had a saying that everyone used to listen to: 'just get the job done'," Thompson said.

The Crows return to action on Saturday against West Coast in Perth with Thompson ready to play - but he can't speak for others.

"The feeling I have at the moment is the group is in the best possible place," he said.

"We have had a couple of training runs this week and the fact we have been around each other a fair bit had been really important.

"I'm looking forward to getting back out there again and sticking tight with the team.

"It's a day-by-day thing with the other boys. Everyone deals with their emotions in their own ways."

Thompson and his teammates trained at their West Lakes headquarters on Wednesday with about 3,000 people attending as the mourning of Walsh continued.

"It was fantastic to see so many supporters come out and watch us train," Thompson said.

"You look back since the events, and the amount of love and support that we have seen from the whole football community ... has been overwhelming."

But the 32-year-old believed the return to training routines and prospect of a match would help teammates sharpen a focus towards playing.

"Now it's a good thing we have got some normality back with what we're doing," he said.

"We have had two footy sessions and, to be honest, we have created a bit of energy out there. I think we have actually trained quite well.

"The importance of sticking together and doing things together will continue to flow on."
