A "raw" Michael Diamond will make a last-ditch bid for a ticket to the Rio Olympics at a special meeting with the Australian Olympic Committee on Thursday.
The two-time shooting Games gold medallist and his legal representatives will front the AOC's executive board in Sydney to explain why he should be still allowed to compete in Brazil.
Shooting Australia will also be given a chance to speak.
Diamond had his shooting licence suspended after he was charged with drink-driving and firearms offences last month following an alleged argument with his brother in Shoal Bay, near Newcastle.
His case is not expected back in court until July 25, after the AOC's July 4 cut-off for team selection.
The AOC has reportedly written to the International Shooting Federation to clarify whether the 44-year-old is still allowed to shoot at the Olympics without a gun licence.
Diamond did not wish to comment when contacted by AAP, other than to say he was feeling "pretty raw" about the situation.
The trap shooting veteran was in line to attend his seventh Olympics when Shooting Australia planned to nominate him - and Games bronze medallist Adam Vella - for the team in April.
But the announcement was delayed after teenage star Mitchell Iles lodged an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport having missed out on selection.
The challenge was heard early last week and a decision is expected soon.
Diamond had put up his hand to be flagbearer at the Rio Games, where he was aiming to join swimming great Dawn Fraser as the only Australians to win three Olympic gold medals in the same event.
