Australia's new $5 note will soon be unveiled, but don't get too excited - it will look pretty much like the old one.

The design will be changed to accommodate new security measures and tactile features to help the vision-impaired.

But it will have "the same basic colours, sizes and include the same people" as the old one, the Reserve Bank of Australia said on Monday.

Images of the new note will be published on April 12 but it will not go into circulation until September 1, the RBA said.
