Read back as Crusaders make five changes

Skipper Kieran Read's return is among five changes to the Crusaders' starting line-up for their final match of the Super Rugby season against the Brumbies.

No.8 Kieran Read returns to skipper the Crusaders in one of five changes to the starting 15 for the Super Rugby match against the Brumbies in Canberra.

Read sat out the 34-11 win over the Blues last weekend as he continued his recovery from a head knock.

Fellow All Black Sam Whitelock is also back for the match on Saturday, the lock having come off the bench against the Blues.

There are three changes in the backs, with right winger Jone Macilai, centre Ryan Crotty and halfback Andy Ellis being included.

Ellis's back-up is former Hurricane Billy Guyton, who will make his debut for the Crusaders if he comes off the bench.

Five-eighth Colin Slade has got over a thigh injury to take a spot in the reserves.

Despite their win over the Blues, the Crusaders' hopes of making the play-offs for a 14th successive season were ended when defending champions the Waratahs beat the Cheetahs in South Africa.

The Brumbies, who have secured their finals spot, are sixth going into the last round, but are level on competition points with the Australian conference-leading Waratahs and could finish as high as second.

Crusaders: Tom Taylor, Jone Macilai, Ryan Crotty, David Havili, Nemani Nadolo, Dan Carter, Andy Ellis, Kieran Read (capt), Richie McCaw, Matt Todd, Sam Whitelock, Luke Romano, Owen Franks, Codie Taylor, Wyatt Crockett.

Reserves: Ben Funnell, Alex Hodgman, Nepo Laulala, Jimmy Tupou, Jordan Taufua, Billy Guyton, Colin Slade, Nafi Tuitavake.
