A real estate agent who allegedly helped drug smugglers invest their profits has been released from prison on bail.
Garry Raymond Green, 33, is accused of helping a syndicate that allegedly imported $8 million worth of cannabis to Queensland through domestic airports.
He's been charged with trafficking drugs as a vicious, lawless associate under Queensland's anti-bikie laws, which also apply to any criminal gang member.
If found guilty, Green faces having an extra 15 years' jail tacked onto his sentence under the strict new laws.
At Green's bail application on Tuesday, Senior Sergeant Mark Gorton said he was more than just a property agent for the gang, and that he "assisted in the movement of drug money into properties".
But Green's lawyer said his client had only leased properties used by the gang and had taken no part in the actual making, trafficking or distribution of drugs.
"He's a very astute businessman who unfortunately got caught up in these circumstances," lawyer Adam Magill told the Brisbane Magistrates Court.
Police opposed releasing Green from custody, saying there was a risk he could flee interstate.
However, Magistrate Elizabeth Hall granted bail on the condition he report daily to police and not leave the state without permission.
The case was adjourned to June 2.
More than a dozen people were arrested last month in raids in Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast following a four-month police investigation into the alleged drug operation.
