Real issues in Struggle Street: Morrison

Social Services Minister Scott Morrison believes controversial SBS program Struggle Street has raised some real welfare issues.

A controversial SBS program documenting life in the western Sydney suburb of Mount Druitt has canvassed some very real welfare issues, Social Services Minister Scott Morrison believes.

The proud resident of the Sutherland Shire, in Sydney's south, admitted to watching the first episode of Struggle Street, which has been labelled "poverty porn" by critics and some local residents.

The series highlighted the need to do things that helped people "get out of the cycle of welfare and get into the cycle of work", Mr Morrison told reporters in Sydney on Thursday.
