Rebels confirm rookie Paisami charged over nightclub incident

Paisami and fellow rookie Pone Faamausili were suspended indefinitely by the club after they admitted their involvement in the incident early on Sunday morning.

"The Melbourne Rebels can confirm club player Hunter Paisami has been formally charged and bailed to appear before a Magistrate on 20 September," Rebels chief executive Baden Stephenson said in a statement.

"With the matter now subject to a judicial process the club will not be commenting specifically on the case.

"Both Hunter and Pone Faamausili remain suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of the club's internal investigation and in consultation with Rugby Australia, Rugby Victoria and the Rugby Union Players' Association."

The incident was brought to light by a social media post from a relative of the alleged victim, the Rugby Australia report said.

The 20-year-old Paisami has yet to make his senior debut, while Faamausili made his first Rebels appearance earlier this season and recently re-signed until the end of the 2020 season.

The incident comes a week after Rebels number eight Amanaki Mafi faced a court in Dunedin, New Zealand, after being charged for his part in a violent clash with team mate and Wallabies loose forward Lopeti Timani.
