Rebels sign Japanese rugby's Sau

The Melbourne Rebels havs signed Japanese rugby union international Male Sau for the remainder of the season.

The Melbourne Rebels have added Japanese international Male Sau to their Super Rugby roster for the 2014 season.

The 26-year-old utility back, who can play in the halves and centres, said he was confident of having an immediate impact despite missing the Rebels' opening match - a 35-14 win over the Cheetahs on Friday night.

"I think I will adapt fairly quickly, and I hope that I will be able to perform well at Super Rugby level," he said in a statement.

The New Zealand-born Sau joins fellow Japanese internatonal Shota Horie at the Rebels.

Sau has represented Japan on 13 occasions.
