Record 321kg haul of ice seized in WA

Four young Hong Kong nationals have been arrested in Perth over the seizure of 321kg of methylamphetamine and $1.2 million in cash.

Four Hong Kong nationals have been charged over Western Australia's biggest methamphetamine haul, with a record 321 kilograms seized by police.

One of them, an 18-year-old, was arrested on Tuesday after organised crime squad detectives pulled over his car at Willetton in Perth's south.

Police then searched a house in Canning Vale where they allegedly found 316kg of ice individually wrapped in 1kg Chinese tea packaging, and hidden in 10 suitcases and a sports bag.

The teenager was charged, along with a 19-year-old man, with possessing the drugs and a substantial quantity of cash.

The search led police to an Adelaide Terrace apartment and a Hay Street hotel room in the Perth CBD where they allegedly seized a further 5kg of the drug and more cash.

A 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were charged in relation to those searches.

The total street value of the drugs is estimated to be more than $321 million, making it the largest haul of methamphetamine in WA history.

"We're very proud to have taken this off the streets but the significant amount of it can only be described as frightening," WA police acting deputy commissioner Michelle Fyfe said.

The cash seized allegedly totals more than $1.4 million.

One of the men was on a visitor visa while the three others were in the country unlawfully, Australian Crime Commission chief executive Chris Dawson said.

All four men appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday and are now in custody.
