Record mobile data use tipped for NYE

Telstra predicts more than 2,300 terabytes of data will be downloaded, 39 million calls made and 91 million messages sent on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Australians are tipped to download and share more data on their mobile phones than ever before during this year's New Year's Eve celebrations.

Telstra predicts 2,300 terabytes will be used on Monday and Tuesday on its mobile network alone - the equivalent of one person continuously watching 300 hours of high definition video.

That's a jump of more than 50 per cent on 2017, according to the telco.

More than 39 million calls from mobiles and 91 million messages are also expected to be sent, mostly between midnight and 1am.
