Reds rocked by triple injury rugby blow

Queensland's hopes of a Super Rugby revival against the Crusaders have been rocked by injuries to Liam Gill, Chris Feauai-Sautia and Eddie Quirk.

Queensland's slim Super Rugby finals hopes have been all but extinguished with a triple injury blow.

Flankers Liam Gill and Eddie Quirk along with outside back Chris Feauai-Sautia have all been ruled out for several weeks after suffering injuries in last weekend's 44-14 defeat to the Blues in Auckland.

Gill, who returned from a five-week layoff due to a hamstring injury against the Blues, strained his calf and is expected to be out for at least two weeks.

Quirk is also facing a fortnight on the sidelines after hurting a rib during the match.

Feauai-Sautia's Super Rugby campaign is over after dislocating a shoulder trying to prevent a Blues' try late in the first half.

The 20-year-old has undergone shoulder reconstruction surgery and is facing a six-month recovery.

With prop James Slipper handed a three-week ban for a lifting tackle against the Blues, Reds coach Richard Graham faces a selection dilemma for Sunday's visit by the Crusaders.

"We are fortunate that both Beau (Robinson) and Curtis (Browning) have been involved every week in the match squad," Graham said.

"We also have Simmo (Rob Simmons) and Dave McDuling who can play at blindside flanker."

Winger Dom Shipperley will be available for selection against the Crusaders after recovering from a hip injury which has kept him sidelined since round seven.

Ben Daley is poised to step into the void left by Slipper's suspension.

The 25-year-old says despite the Reds sitting 12th and 10 points off the finals following their fourth straight defeat, the team hasn't given up completely on snaring a finals spot.

"Teams can beat anyone in this competition. You've got lower-ranked teams beating top-ranked teams, so we're not dead in the water yet," Daley said.
