Refugee supporters scale Channel 7 building to protest Border Force

Refugee advocates from the Whistleblowers, Activists and Citizens Alliance (WACA) have scaled Channel 7's building in Melbourne's Docklands to protest the government's immigration detention policy for asylum seekers.

The roof of Channel 7's Docklands building was chosen for the protest because there is a direct line of sight to the Border Force headquarters at Customs House, according to the campaign group.

WACA says it staged the action, which takes place during Refugee Week, to call on the federal government to repeal the Border Force Act, evacuate the camps and end the "illegal indefinite detention of refugeees".

In a statement, WACA spokesperson Zianna Fuad said: “The federal government and its refugee detention industry contractors have again sought to avoid being held to account with their proposal to settle the Manus class action compensation case out of court."
