A group of refugees has reportedly ended a 10-day hunger strike at a Melbourne immigration detention centre.

The group at the Broadmeadows facility is said to comprise mostly of Tamils from Sri Lanka, and had been protesting over their continued detention on security grounds.

Some have been detained for up to four years after negative assessments from the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, despite being recognised as refugees.

Refugee Action Coalition spokesman Ian Rintoul told Bree Roberts the group ended their strike after being promised meetings with Immigration officals.
