Rejected cousin guilty of Vic murder plot

A man has been found guilty of plotting the murder of his cousin's husband, after the woman rejected his arranged marriage proposal.

An Afghan man has been found guilty of plotting to murder his cousin's new husband after she rejected his arranged marriage proposal.

Wahid Najibi, 27, planned the murder after the woman, known by the alias ZN, secretly married another man and fell pregnant to her new lover.

The pair fled to Queensland in 2010 but became the target of the murder plot when they returned to Melbourne the following year.

During Najibi's trial, the Victorian Supreme Court heard he was so ashamed by the rejection he felt setting up an "Afghan culture hit" as retribution was his only option.

On Thursday, a jury found Najibi guilty of incitement to murder, but not guilty of other charges including extortion with threat to kill and intentionally causing injury.

He has been remanded into custody and will face a plea hearing on May 15.
